Ministry Of Air Club Championships
Saturday 18th December 2004 - held at Aldenham School Sports Centre with a Disco party to follow at the school.
The competition was run in accordance with the National Graded Structure, Grade 1 to Grade 5, with virtually the full Club attending. We put the younger competitors into their Age Groups for 2005, thus enabling them to treat this competition as part of their preparation for the 2005 season. For all of these it was an invaluable experience.
We were delighted to welcome Jonathan Prazer, back fom University for Christmas, as a Guest performer, and Naomi Butler from Northampton, a much loved Coach and Sports Therapist who came to enjoy the party.
Overall winner (highest score over two rounds), & thus Club Champion was Graham Williams, in second place Lauren Shipman, and third was Kayleigh McCarthy.
Also congratulations to Charlotte Robinson, Lydia Barton & Georgia Foster who qualified to Grade 4 for the 2005 season as a result of their performances at this competition. This competition was also a trial for Charley O'Dell to confirm her promotion to Grade 2 - well done Charley, a storming convincing performnce.
Finally well done to our newest members who braved the induction into competition, Georgia Foster, Daisy Longden & Anthony Hadgill - particularly to Georgia who came second using the Grade 4 Set as her Vol and thus qualified to Grade 4.
Club performances at the Competition are shown below.

Grade 2 National Championships, Bournemouth Littledown Centre
We went with just 2 of our Grade 2s, and planned to have a brilliant weekend with great supporters
Julie Gooderick Julie's Set and Vol routines were a credit her commitment through the year. She deservedly qualified to march into the hall to compete in the final with the best in grade 2 - and to a packed hall produced a stunning 3rd round with two double somersaults to finish as the 8th placed Grade 2 competitor in Great Britain.
Rosie Spreadbury competing in her first Nationals - and in a huge field - Rosie settled to the task, and produced a very composed set routine and showed her true potential, but was slightly over excited when she got up to do her Vol and lost the focus that she displayed in the set. A really creditable result indicative of her potential in the years to come.

Lauren Shipman, reasonable set using her planned 2005 World A compulsory routine, her Vol was off her best however.
Julie rd round. Gooderick, Emma Nicholson, Alex Tilley and Chris Tilley all performing in their first International event gained great experience and all performed well (Emma scored a PB for tariff of 6.2).

Synchronised Trampoline - Stunning news!!

Prior to the finals of the exciting Invitational individuals competitions.Graham Williams & Jason Holland (Apex Gym Club) gained Bronze in the Senior Male Synchro, Kayleigh McCarthy & Nicki Pugh (Stockport T.C.) came 3rd in the Senior Female Synchro.
Our other pairs were Julie Gooderick & Lauren Shipman, 4th in Senior Female (and for Julie this included a Personal Best 7.6 tariff) and Chris & Alex Tilley, 11th in the Junior Male.
Our Official was Terry Williams [Tariff Judge], Club Coaches for the day were Terry Williams, Robin Atkins & Alex Deller, and Graham Williams.
Last Grade 2 of the qualifying season, and we are off to sunny Hudderfield ... would have been 6 of us, but Charlotte Cunningham couldn't make it.
Julie Gooderick [Under 18 F] This was Julie's best ever Grade 2 with two PB scores from an outstanding second round, finishing in 11th place, and she qualified for the National Championships.
Emma Nicholson [Under 18 F] produced a delightful Set routine, putting her in 5th place, Emma decided to attempt a PB tariff in the Vol round and introduced an extra Back S/S, Emma completed the routine well even with some improvisation, and didn't realise quite how good the Double Back was until it over rotated.
Stephen Jeffery [Under 13 M] Stephen worked hard all the way, producing one of his best 3/4 Back S/S/, Cody's. With a little more time spent on the body tension Steve will be producing excellent marks for both routines.
Rosie Spreadbury [Under 13 F] Rosie had a cracking day and two great routines put her into 11th place and qualification for the Nationals, also hit 3 PBs.
Charlotte Wilkinson [Under 13 F] Charlotte couldn't quite produce the great form that she'd shown in training, and had to settle for a far lower place than we'd anticipated.

Emma Nicholson [Under 18 F] produced a delightful Set routine, puting her in top 8, and followed this up with a good second round taking her within 0.3 of qualifying for the Grade 2 Nationals, also gained a PB for Tariff. First time into the top ten at a Grade 2, and Emma picks the day when there is no Finals!!
Julie Gooderick [Under 18 F] After a slightly dissapointing first round, Julie tried out her new Vol to good effect, also gaining a PB for Tariff along the way. This was Julie's best ever Grade 2.

Held at Birmingham National Indoor Arena
An extraordinarily well organised competition in a fantastic venue. The opportunity to watch a truly fabulous spectacle of the best in British Trampolining.
Four competitors representing Ministry Of Air. Click Number one to see the squad.
Lauren Shipman [Under 18 F]. This was Lauren's second incursion to the British Championships,
Her Set routine was fantastic, one of her best at Grade 1. Her planned Vol was intended to be a 9.5, however she made a sensible substitution, and came in with an 8.1, Two great performances. She came 14th in her Age Group, up from 23rd last year. A great conclusion to the season, and Lauren looks forward to Over 18 F next year
Kayleigh McCarthy [Over 18 F]. Kayleigh's third British Championships, the Over 18F class is massive & includes 20 from the Elite Ladies class. Kayleigh's new Set routine was absolutely delightful, with an 8.7 from one judge. Her Vol also went really well, again, her best at the 9.7 tariff practiced at the later part of the season. She came 23rd in Great Britain, and excellent achievement. Once again Kayleigh absolutely loved the experience - and is determined to do even better next year.
Jonathan Prazer [Over 18 M]. This was Jonathan's first incursion to the British Championships, the first of many we hope!
We wait with bated breath, "How will he cope with the big occasion?" His Set routine was fantastic, his best at Grade 1 (including 8.7 from one Judge). He went on to achieve another personal best with an 8.0 tariff Voluntary routine. Two great performances. He came 22nd in his Age Group.
Graham Williams [Over 18 M]. Graham's goal was to get a top ten placing
His set routine went well, nice lines and even height, however midway up a very strong field. Graham was relying on the same good form with a fairly safe Vol. The plan worked and took him up to 9th place and his first every place in the National Finals. On the Sunday he pulled a blinder with a new personal best Tariff score of 13.3 and closed on the leaders to finish in 6th place. A lifetime best performance!
Graham Williams [Elite Men]. And just when we thought it couldn't get any better....
The Set went superbly and attained his best ever Grade 1 marks. The second round took place on the Sunday, and we had high hopes for Graham. The packed hall watched Graham finish a quality 12.9 tariff.
This bought him into the Finals at 9th. A career best performance with a 13.3 tariff final round then raised him to 8th place, and Ministry Of Air supporters joined 1000 spectators to let him hear how much they rated him!!
This really was his lifetime best performance, two in one weekend!

Another huge Grade 2 competition, but close to home at Gillingham. We took 4 of our squad over the Toll bridge to Kent.
Charlotte Wilkinson [Under 13 F]. This was her first Grade 2 and we hoped she'd handle it well. Plan was to complete 2 routines and settle in. Charlotte did exactly this, and looks at home in Grade 2.
Stephen Jeffery [Under 13 M]. Just back from injury, and only one training session over the last 6 weeks, we planned that Stephen should simply do his best under these circumstances. Stephen produced two creditable routines.
Charlotte Cunningham [Under 18 F] produced a delightful Set routine, puting her in top 12, however she had to produce some interesting substitutions to complete her Vol and lost some places.
Julie Gooderick [Under 18 F] made a good improvement on her Set since last year's Grade 2s and looked very settled. The Vol however wasn't quite as stable, and this was reflected in the scoring.
Julie Gooderick [Grade 1 Validation O 18 F] Julie also had two tries at attaining the required form score to move to Grade 1. The second routine came quite close, and we are confident that with practice Julie will achieve this soon.

Last Grade 1 of the season at Kings Heath Birmingham, and nerves are jangling for some, as this was the last chnce to qualify for the British Championships
Chris Tilley A great first round routine - his best at Grade 1 despite his foot injury. Chris was suffering from injury which proved too much hindrance in his Vol and had to terminate early. Chris has already retained Grade 1 qualification and we are expecting a great season in 2005.
Jonathan Prazer Jon produced two fist class routines and was laying in 2nd place. The final was to be so successful but it didn't matter to Jon since today's performance means that he now joins Graham, Lauren and Kayleigh at the British Championships.
Lauren Shipman Produced a very good quality first round routine; her best performance in ladies to date. Lauren was surprised with quite how well her Vol started and unfortunately a really big HIHO put her straight back under too much pressure making the routine terminate early. But with the first HIHO (P) in comp for Lauren she has lots of good experience to take away with her.
Kayleigh McCarthy Kayleigh's set routine was off her usual standard. However she achieved her goal to complete her 9.7 tariff vol. routine with improved form score.
Graham Williams A brilliant set equalled his lifetime Elite Men best.
Their performances at the Competition are shown below.

Close to home, 5 of our Grade 1s went to Reading, lovely weather and really nice venue
Chris Tilley 2 steady routines put Chris into the finals again (3rd time in 4 outings).
Jonathan Prazer Jon is now well established in Grade 1, and now starts to increase his tariff (a PB of 7.5).
Lauren Shipman First time in the Elite Ladies for Lauren, she produced two very nice routines and showed no signs of nerves competing against the GB 2000 Olypian.
Kayleigh McCarthy Achieved her goals for the day, being an improvement in Set Form scores, and going for a tariff PB of 9.7.
Graham Williams Today's plan was to lower the tariff and seek far higher 2nd round form marks. The plan worked beautifully, and gained lifetime best Grade 1 scores, and finished just short of the medals.

A huge programme of 400+ Grade 2 competitors in the middle of the Grade 2 Season, scheduled to last over nine hours. We had planned to take 5 of our Grade2s, but had two last minute withdrawals. (Charlotte Cunningham and Stephen Jeffery
Emma Nicholson Started with a magical crash dive, completely overlooking she was flying down the trampoline heading for the end-deck!. So .. into the second round and a great opportunity to try out a bigger Vol, and gained a personal best for the 5.5 tariff.
Anna Villarreal Her first Grade 2, and thrown into a huge group of 85. Anna laid out two very reasonable performances, and showed that she is ready to compete well at this level.
Rosie Spreadbury Two great routines put Rosie into the top third of a big group of 60. Rosie also gained a personal best for her 2nd round score, and nearly equalled her best ever scores over two rounds.
Off to the pub before leaving, and Rosie and Anna showed us some weird pub garden gymnastics - maybe they are in the wrong sport. These girls are truly mad!

Graham fancied a day trip to Ireland, as an exploratory incursion. Based on Graham's feedback we'll be going again
Graham reported "My Vol was so good that even when I jumped on the Mat after move 10 and lost
0.8's all-round I still got over the National qualifying score.59.0. I used a down sized tariff for practice of new techniques. I was less pleased with the final since I did not win, but did manage to
keep cool and rearrange the routine on the go and still include the Rudi Out."

Grade 1 Wales, Welsh Institute Of Sport Cardiff.
The fourth Grade 1 of the season, and one that we never miss, as there is an overnight stay and the Mid-season synchro the following day.
Graham Williams Unusually Graham fluffed both routines, He couldn't quite explain how he came to take his mind off of the task in hand.
Kayleigh McCarthy First time into the Elite Ladies group, and the first-time that Kayleigh was to use a multiple twisting double somersault. Fingers crossed we watched with bated breath, and it went fine. She also produced a personal best tariff of 9.1.
Jonathan Prazer. after a hesitant start, Jon settled to the task well, and the next two rounds got better and better and secured 7th place.
Lauren Shipman produced her best Grade 1 performances ever, and secured 3rd place, and the qualification to join Kayleigh in Elite Ladies.
Chris Tilley After a good start Chris had to pull up halfway through the second round.

Christine O'Brien took time off to Guildford for an opportunity to compete for Brunel University
Typical of a University student she put down two good routines, then went off to the student bar to await the outcome. She finished third, and qualified to the BUSA Nationals Championships in March at Reading. Well done Chrissy!

Grade 2 East, Southend-On-Sea - Southend L.& T.C.
Welcome to warm & sunny Southend-On-Sea, snowboots and thermal underwear was compulsory apparell for the poor suffering officials. This was our first venture into the National scene for each of our Grade 2s
Emma Nicholson pulled off a blinder, two outstanding routines put Emma into the top ten of a big group of 40+, and secured her Grade 2 retention mark.
Charlotte Cunningham despite looking good in Warm-ups, couldn't quite find the same form in the competition, nevertheless was clearly enjoying her first experience in the Grade 2s.
Stephen Jeffery began with a very decent Set routine, Steve managed his BOB in the Vol. for the first time in competition with this new move he only missed out on the Finals by 0.1.
Rosie Spreadbury really looked at home in a large very strong group. Her set was fine, but she forgot to "count to three", and the Vol was a bit shaky on the travel front. Nevertheless a great performance and a splendid start to her Grade 2 career.
Well done all four, we were extremely delighted with all of you.
